Chief Meteorologist Jeff Rucker was born in Jacksonville, Fla., and he grew up in Marietta, Ga.

After graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy, Jeff spent 3 years as a ship's officer on a Navy destroyer in San Diego. He then attended the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California, where he earned a Master's Degree in Meteorology and Physical Oceanography. Jeff trained as a Navy Meteorologist at the Naval Atlantic Meteorology and Oceanography Center in Norfolk, Va.

In 1997, Jeff decided to pursue a career in Broadcast Meteorology. After leaving the Navy, he joined WTKR-TV in Norfolk as morning meteorologist. Jeff is a member of the American Meteorological Society. He earned its Seal of Approval in 1998.

In 1999, Jeff accepted the Chief Meteorologist position at NBC Augusta 26.

Jeff met his wife, Christine, at WTKR. Previously a television news producer, she works part-time as a resume tape producer and fitness instructor. Jeff and Christine live in North Augusta with their daughter and son. Jeff and his family are members of Stevens Creek Church in Martinez.
