Mark your calendars for Saturday, August 2, 2008, for the 5th Annual Tom Watson Watermelon Festival in historic Thomson, Georgia. There will be games, contests, a watermelon slingshot, music, food, and, oh yeah – WATERMELONS! Did you know there is only 25 calories in a serving of watermelon?
· Tom Watson Watermelon growing contest -- top prize $300 cash!
· Watermelon Seed Spitting Contest – the World Record, set in 1989 in Texas was 68 feet 9 inches, surely a good Southerner can out-spit a Texan.
· Watermelon Shot-put – not yet an Olympic event, but it probably should be.
· Watermelon Roll – how far can YOU push a watermelon with your head?
· Kids Zone – this watermelon-enriched area is JUST for kids ages 8 and younger. Come dress a watermelon, play watermelon toss across and win a prize for watermelon bowling.
· Arts & Crafts vendors, food, historical and educational displays
· Live Music!
