Event Description

Redcliffe Plantation Holds Fall Seed Swap

Calling all garden lovers! Redcliffe Plantation SHS celebrates biodiversity and the joy of gardening with a fall seed swap held on the grounds of the historic plantation Sunday, September 07, 2008 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Gardeners are invited to bring seeds, fall plants and gardening crafts to trade with fellow gardeners. Information also will be available on local gardening resources and there will be gardening-related activities for children.

The park can provide chairs but participants who need tables should bring their own. All items must be available for trade, with no sales permitted. Call (803) 827-1473 or e-mail redcliffe@scprt.com for more information and to register for the seed swap. There is no charge to participate. More information will be posted at www.SouthCarolinaParks.com a week before the program.

Redcliffe Plantation State Historic Site was the home of SC Governor James Henry Hammond (1807-1864) and three generations of his descendants, as well as numerous generations of African American families who lived on the plantation as slaves and later as freedmen. It was donated by the last owner to the state of South Carolina in 1975 and is managed today by the SC State Park Service.
