American Cancer Society’s annual Relay For Life kick off set for
This year marks the 25th National Relay For Life and Augusta’s 15th Relay. The annual American Cancer Society event is set to hold its kick-off on Thursday, January 8, 2009 at 6:00 p.m. in Simmons Hall at Warren Baptist Church located at 3203 Washington Rd.
Those interested in forming a team for this year’s relay are invited to attend the kick-off. The theme of the relay will be Back to the Future in celebration of 25 years of Relay For Life. Come dressed in your best 80’s attire. Every team member who is dressed in an 80’s costume will receive $10 for his or her relay team and the best dressed will win $100 for his or her team. There will also be a dance off to Michael Jackson’s Thriller and the winner will receive $100 toward his or her team. Chik-fil-A will provide the food.
Relay For Life is scheduled to begin May 15, 2009 and end May 16, 2009 at Westside High School and will involve teams from businesses, schools, churches, clubs, community organizations, as well as friends and families. Events at the relay include walking the track, music, entertainment, food, and lots of fun. We plan to “celebrate, remember, and fight back!” A lap by cancer survivors will begin the event and a luminary ceremony will take place at nightfall.
There will be many events leading up to the Relay and the kickoff party begins it all. Join us in becoming a part in the fight against cancer and don’t forget to take a walk back in time and come dressed like the 1980’s.
