A new MSNBC/McClatchy/Mason-Dixon poll in Georgia shows the Republican race for president tightening just ahead of tomorrow's primary, while steady support for Obama continues among Democrats.
On the Republican side, the poll found Senator John McCain in the lead with 33 percent, while Mitt Romney has increased his standing in the state to 27 percent, outpacing Mike Huckabee, who garnered 18 percent in the poll. Four percent of respondents chose Congressman Ron Paul.
As recently as mid-January, Mike Huckabee was leading in Georgia polls.
On the Democratic side, Senator Barack Obama leads Senator Hillary Clinton 47 percent to 41 percent. Obama has maintained a consistent lead in all polls taken in Georgia since the beginning of January.
The poll was also conducted in several other Super Tuesday states, including California, where the Republican respondents chose McCain over Romney by 40 percent to 31 percent. Huckabee placed a distant third in California with just 13 percent.
Hillary Clinton leads the Democrats in the California poll with 45 percent of respondents saying they'll vote for her. Obama received 36 percent in the poll.
The poll surveyed 400 likely Democratic and 400 likely Republican voters in each state. The poll was conducted January 30 through February 1.
