Many parents with jobs that take them away from home struggle with finding more time to be there for their kids.
Bobbie Goolsby is a single mom who's fighting for our country and making time to teach her children along the information superhighway.
“You gotta talk to your kids, you can't expect the community or the streets to raise your kids because if you allow that they'll go the wrong way. You gotta stay in their lives; talk to them,” Goolsby said.
As she gets ready for another deployment thousands of miles away, she takes comfort in knowing she and her children can still be face to face.
Goolsby is a pro at helping 14-year-old ReLinda and 9-year-old Steven with their homework via the Internet.
“You help me look up my words in the dictionary, just go to Dictionary.com,” Steven said.
“It lets me know that wherever she goes, she's there for us,” ReLinda said.
“I don't care if I'm stationed overseas or in the states, my child comes first," Goolsby said.
Mom says it's rewarding to know the kids are still doing well in school while she's gone.
“ReLinda made honor roll and my mother kept the little articles and would send them to me. Those little things would motivate me to continue doing what I'm doing and make me realize I'm making a difference in their life,” Goolsby said.
Goolsby says she wants her family to see how working hard in the face of obstacles equals success in the long run.
“They saw me come through college while they were in school and realized hey if momma can do it we can do it.”
