Imagine working out and worshipping at the same time.

Several churches now feature ministries incorporating physical and spiritual fitness.

“It's very important to keep our bodies in shape,” Jovonna McNeal said.

McNeal loves to exercise. In fact, it's part of her ministry.

“I get up at 4:30 and exercise. I do two miles on an aerobic machine. I'm always running around at work and I come here Tuesday and Thursday and work out with my team here,” she said.

Jovonna instructs the Fitness for Christ program at Good Shepherd Baptist Church.

The group meets twice a week to work on their bodies and spirits.

“We get a chance to read, do Bible study before we start our fitness program which is enlightening for us, we get a chance to talk about Gods work first,” Dolores Walker said.

Walker’s goal is to lose weight and tone, but the group also enjoys the fellowship and opportunity to build strength to minister in the community.

“With a healthy mind and body you can always do God's work better,” McNeal said.

Second Providence Baptist Church in North Augusta also has a unique health and spiritual wellness program.

They are participating in a national program called Walking to Jerusalem.

They have calculated the miles from North Augusta to Jerusalem and pledged to walk every week until they reach that number.
