A group of young people are sharing their faith through performing in Augusta.
“This will be my sixth play my company Victory Productions has done. It’s a main stage play about a married couple as they're trying to fix their marriage. They're also trying to fix relationships around them,” Karlton Clay, playwright and producer, said.
Clay is very much like an up-and-coming Tyler Perry of sorts. The 22-year-old has already written a series of plays, 2 novels, and a television series.
“To glorify God through the arts is always the number one goal. Number two, also empower and encourage young people,” Clay said.
Rehearsals for this weekend's performance “The Lord's Prayer” preview a variety of expressions, but a common theme of faith and prayer changing things.
“I think people can learn a lot. I think it's everyday life; it relates to life. I think people come out, they can see part of their life in the experience,” Neal Blair, who plays “C.J. Thompson, Jr.” in the play, said.
“He writes roles people are familiar with. It may not be you, but you know somebody or a family member going though that,” Dwain Greene, who plays “Victor Bardwell” in the play, said.
“I've been acting at Augusta State but I never thought of acting as a ministry as a way of getting across God's word, but now that I do it I enjoy it, it's something I love to do I just thank God for the opportunity,” Greene said.
Clay, who is a leukemia survivor, wants other young people to know they can achieve their dreams no matter their present situation.
They can achieve big things if they put their mind to it and keep faith in God. If you'd like to see the play: The Lord's Prayer, it's coming up this weekend at Hillcrest Baptist Church on Deans Bridge Road in Augusta.
There are two performances on Saturday, June 28 at 3 and 6 p.m.
