UPDATE: SC gets enough orders to make religious car tags

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - The Department of Motor Vehicles says it has enough paid orders to begin making Christian-themed license plates in South Carolina despite a lawsuit challenging the move.

Agency spokeswoman Beth Parks said Monday it took fewer than three days to get 400 people to order and pay $5 to cover the additional cost of making the plates.

The plates depict a stained-glass window with a cross and the words "I Believe" written on top.

Parks says the plates should be available in about a month.

Legislators passed a law authorizing the tag this year.

Washington-based Americans United for Separation of Church and State have sued South Carolina officials.

The group argues the plates amount to state sponsorship of a particular faith.

Christians should have a choice to get the plates and non-Christians should have a choice not to. The non-Christian group should not be allowed to prevent my right to choose. As for Rick, I feel sorry for you, if you don't want Christians to force their belief on you, then don't force your non-belief on us.
