When you're single, finding new ways to meet people can be challenging.
That's why a local church is reaching out with a new option.
With rock music from The Wave band providing an inspirational edge, spirits are lifted in the young crowd gathered at First Baptist Church in North Augusta.
"707" is a new program the church is offering to single adults across the area.
“It's about the opportunity to meet other people like you, develop friends and it doesn't matter what church you go to, it doesn't matter if you don't go to church,”
Rev. Ty Lochridge, an Associate Pastor for Single Adult Ministries, said.
Rev. Lochridge says he wants to reach singles from all walks of life, not just twenty-somethings.
“Divorced parents, single parents, you're talking about the widow, even singles waiting to delay marriage until later in life,” Lochridge said.
And contrary to popular belief, Rev. Lochridge says singles ministries aren't just about dating, but also friendship, fellowship and growth.
“I heard about it on the radio and thought, ‘Hmmm, that would be a nice way to meet people, fellowship with friends and get to know the lord better,” Alysia Wollam from Edgefield County said.
For Pete Wood, who just moved to North Augusta a few years ago from the Washington, D.C. area the atmosphere is inviting.
“For me, it keeps me in a safe place, out of bars and stuff I know is not healthy for me as a person,” Wood said.
With a mix of entertainment and worship, "707" promises to be an exciting new alternative.
If you'd like to check out the "707" event, just head over to First Baptist Church in North Augusta on Thursday nights at 7:07 p.m.
To reach more single adults in the CSRA, the church is also launching a new website called AugustaSingles.com in early November.
