AUGUSTA. Ga. - School's out and the kids from Saint Mark's United Methodist Church in Augusta are keeping busy, at least for this week.

Whether it's throwing dirt, painting, or cleaning yards, several groups from the church are doing a project called River of Life where they fix up several sites throughout Georgia-Carolina.

They say it's an opportunity to give back to the community and teach kids there's more to church than just sitting down and listening to a sermon.

“The kids are learning what it is to do a good thing for somebody else. I call it sweat equity. They’re investing themselves in the lives of these other people,” Associate Pastor from the United Methodist Church in Griffin, Geoffrey Grubbs said.

“We’re put on this planet for two reasons, and that’s to server others and to serve god, and we’re doing half of it here,” 14-year-old volunteer, Tommy Mixon said.

The kids will be working on various sites throughout the county until Sunday, that's when they'll gather for church and a celebration feast.
