Religious broadcaster Pat Robertson recovering from heart surgery
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Pat Robertson's lead surgeon says he Robertson is back at home in Virginia Beach after his release last week from a hospital in North Carolina. He ultimately will be fitted with a heart monitor. Dr. Andy C. Kiser said Robertson underwent the 10-hour surgical procedure at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst, N.C., to repair an atrial fibrillation. In a separate but related procedure, doctors also removed an abnormally enlarged left appendage on Robertson's heart. They believe the growth contributed to Robertson's atrial fibrillation. Robertson is founder of the Christian Broadcasting Network. His son, Gordon, was named CEO of CBN earlier this year. In 1988, Pat Robertson was an unsuccesful candidate for the Republican nomination for president. Robertson has been the long-time host of "The 700 Club," which airs weekdays on NBC Augusta at 2 p.m. Rich Rogers contributed to this story. (Copyright 2009 by The Associated Press.
