Hundreds of young people will gather for a House Party with a purpose at New Hope Worship Center this Friday.
Headlining at the party is the ALPHA Worship Band.
“Its almost like rock. We have a little bit of R&B in there; it's a good mix,” Carrie Bowen, Worship Arts Director for New Hope, said.
“The difference is we have the Holy Spirit and it's been a great thing. It's taken off,” David Barnett, a singer in the band, said.
The ALPHA Worship Band is an extension of Alpha Net at New Hope Worship Center.
For eight years, band members have used their music to minister to young people.
“It's been awesome; it’s been a blessing. A lot of times we like to say, ‘we're blessed to be a blessing’ to the kids who come to our youth group and the members of our church,” Barnett said.
Every song is full of catchy beats that appeal to today's youth and lyrics that are not only easy to sing, but inspire.
“All the songs are to edify the body of Christ. The songs are also to point people to Jesus so they can worship him in spirit and in truth,” Bowen said.
The group's hope for the future is to take their message outside the church.
“Christian music has evolved a lot, especially outside of here [the church]. So many groups and churches and bands out there are putting out their own music. We're in the process of doing that as well,” Barnett said.
The Alpha Band is performing Friday, August 17, 2007, free of charge from 8 to 10pm at New Hope Worship Center.
The church is on Old Belair Rd. Just take exit 194 on I-20.
