Will your television go dark in February 2009?

Right now, you have until February 17th, 2009 before analog television will be history!

"The TV you've been watching in color for 25 years is going to go away," WAGT Chief Engineer Dave DeFrehn said.

If cable or satellite isn't your thing, then you may have a problem watching television come 2009.

"If you don't have a converter box or digital ready TV, you won't get any television," DeFrehn said.

That's because the United States congress has mandated all television stations, like NBC Augusta, begin broadcasting only in a digital format. That means all analog television signals will go digital across the country, making that antenna on your analog television useless.

"There's a lot of misinformation and rumors that TVs will not work," Kimberly Newman of Best Buy said.

Kimberly has become an expert on the digital switch. She sells digital televisions at the Augusta Best Buy. She also sells $180.00 DTV converter boxes. "It'll give you a signal on an analog TV so you don't have to worry about the switch," Newman said.
