More gas stations are offering a tune up at the pump that promises savings in the long run. It's called Additech, and it's used to keep your engine clean.

Some drivers say they like the idea of automatically pumping in the additives at the pump.

"If it's better for my car, gives me better mileage. Then it's something I need," said Darrel Cheadle, Drive.

Now you don't have to do it yourself, with a push of a button, you can have to additive pumped in as you fill up.

"I used it once, then it dawned on me that I don't believe in fairy tales, I really don't think you're going to get any extra gas mileage then what you're already getting," said Dan Prunier, Driver.

Experts say cars need a good cleaning every once in awhile. And using an additive on occasion won't hurt.

"If you use it every other time you fill up, I think you might see a difference in your gas mileage," said Keith Turner, Mechanic.

But drivers need to be careful before you decide to pay a little extra because you might already be getting the it and not even know it.

"Most octanes already have an additive. So something you put in your tank, might make a difference," said Turner.

So whether you do it yourself, or get it at the pump. Drivers should look at the costs to see if the extra mileage will really save you money.

The additives cost about seven dollars more. Mechanics say different brands of fuel additives will tell you how many times you need to use them.
