Before you're allowed to buy a gun in Georgia, you'll undergo a background check via the national instant check system.

Inside Sidney's Department Store in downtown Augusta, businessman Steven Fishman has an arsenal of guns for sale.

He's been doing business with gun owners for years. In fact, he's become an expert on Georgia's gun law.

"18 years-old for a shotgun or rifle. 21 for a handgun," he said.

But before you buy a gun in Georgia, you'll undergo a background check via the national instant check system.

"There's no waiting period in the state of Georgia, but there can be up to a three day hold period," Fishman said.

Once approved and purchased, where you choose to carry the gun, assuming you have a concealed weapons permit, can get tricky.

"You're allowed to carry in most areas but you're not allowed to carry in public area as in state parks, national parks. You're not allowed to carry in common areas like football arenas and churches," Fishman said.

I agree with Sam concerning georgiapacking. Mr. Fishman doesn't seem to be current on gun laws and his statement on common areas should in fact be "public gatherings" as stated in the law.

These laws are really unfortunate. As anyone knows, churches are really one of the places you NEED to carry a gun! Now, in GA, if the pastor says something you don't agree with, you have no recourse.
