Rebecca from Richmond County wants to know if this year's flu virus is worse than previous years.

Dr. James Wilde of MCGHealth says it's too soon to tell, but he says even if you got a flu shot this year you're not necessarily in the clear.

"The vaccine this year does not appear to be a good match with the circulating strain. The vaccine is manufactured each year based on a guess as to what's being circulated, this year's guess was off," said Wilde.

Wilde says Augusta's flu season started full force about two weeks ago and could continue for another two months.

The Centers for Disease Control says the flu season is worse nationwide.

This week, 44 states reported widespread flu activity, up from 31 last week.
