Scott from Martinez wants to know if flu shots help you build up immunity to the virus.

According to Dr. Mark Newton of Doctors Hospital, the flu shot does not carry over from year to year. It only provides a limited immunity.

Dr. Newton says since flu strains mutate each year, you need a new shot to cover the latest virus.

But like we told you last Friday, this year's flu shots don't fight off two of this year's flu strains.
