GQ: What are the laws regarding cell phone use while driving?

Most drivers do it at some point: talk on the cell phones while driving, but is it legal?

Janice from Richmond County wants to know what the laws are regarding driving while using a cell phone.

There are no statewide restrictions in Georgia or South Carolina that ban or restrict drivers from using cell phones while driving.

But while it is legal, law enforcement says its not always safe. They urge drivers to pay attention to the road.

My 20 yr old son was just in an accident this week. The other driver, while on his cell phone, turned left in front of him. Needless to say, the only good outcome of the whole thing is that no one was hurt. Can't say the same for the vehicles though. A town in Ohio passed legislation that made it illegal to talk on a cell phone while driving. Other states such as NJ and NY have legislation pending concerning this same topic. When will GA/SC do the same?
