By Scott Brady

Jolene from Burke County wants to know, how much gasoline can be made from one barrel of oil?

According to the American Petroleum Institute, a 42 gallon barrel of oil produces about 20-gallons of gasoline.

Each barrel also produces diesel fuel, home heating oil and kerosene besides other products.

The price on Gasoline doesnt drop as fast as crude b/c it takes time to be processed. When Crude prices drop the Processing plant still is using the last week expensive oil and you are pumping the last months really expensive oil. Now it would seem like the price should take a while to go up too, but unfortunately the producers hike the price right away to be able to afford the higher cost crude. Its like the law of supply and demand, except slightly eskewed by greed.

The crude oil also contains other portions that are marketable. Diesel makes up part of the crude and that is over $4 per gallon. You have to look at the whole barrel and break down the parts. However I would like to know why it seems that when crude prices go down, we don't see that decrease at the pump?

according to your statement, at the present price of $120 a barrel the gas should be at $6 gallon and its not even close. Why?
