The presidential race is determined by electoral votes and some states have more than others.
The number of electoral voters is based on each state's congressional representation which is determined by population.
So the larger the population, the more representatives a state has in the U.S. House. Georgia's electoral number is 15. South Carolina's is 8.
A candidate must receive at least 270 of the 538 electoral votes to win the presidential race.
