Thousands of Americans suffer each night from insomnia. But as they try to cure themselves with sleeping pills, the rate of those becoming dependent is increasing.

In this HealthyU segment, University's Health Service Center manager, Julie Long, shows us how to beat insomnia without

HOW CAN YOU AVOID SLEEPING PILL ADDICTION?
1. Take sleep aid with the advice of a physician
2. Remember all drugs can be lethal.
3. Physician prescribed drugs may to taken as needed.

OCCASIONAL SLEEPLESSNESS
1. Avoid caffeine, nicotine and alcohol late in the afternoon and evening.
2. Excercise regularly at least 3 hours before bedtime.
3. Set a regular and relaxing bedtime routine.
4. Take a warm bath and drink a warm glass of milk.

Staying awake all night could help break the cycle of insomnia.
