AUGUSTA, Ga. - One of Augusta’s Biggest Loser’s is Sandra Quinones, a nursing student at Augusta State University.

Not only is she losing weight to be a role model to her future patients, she's also shedding pounds for a different reason.

"I don't think it's ever too late to start over or re-invent yourself or to do something you've always wanted to do," said Quinones.

That's been Sandra Quinones' motto throughout her life.

From performing plays and musicals in her early adult years to media and event planning, you could say if it’s something Sandra wants, she goes after it.

She says she doesn’t stop until she gets it.

“To me you always have a chance as long as there's a breath in your body there's always a chance for you to grow," said Quinones.

Now what Sandra wants is a new career in nursing and a new body to go along with it.

That's one of the reasons she wants to be Augusta's Biggest Loser.

"I don't want to be the fat nurse that goes into my patients room and tell them to exercise, work out...and if I'm not able to live that example how effective am I going to be?,” said Quinones.

Being a role model isn't the only reason Sandra wants to live a healthy life.

She's also doing it for her husband.

Right now her husband is stationed in Iraq.

While he's gone, she's working hard to make sure they have as many years together as possible.

"For me to be healthy with him and have a lot of years to our lives that we can enjoy, I think that's my goal," said Quinones.

When he arrives home from Iraq and Sandra is waiting for him at the airport...

"I kind of picture this sort of scene in the airport and the soldiers are coming home and you're standing there and he sees you...and my eyes look the same so he realizes it's me. The smile on his face to me would be such a joy," said Quinones.

She also says it's a chance for him to see a side of her that he's never seen before.
