AUGUSTA, Ga. - Last year, 12 contestants lost more than 1,000 pounds together.

This year, NBC Augusta's Biggest Loser is back with 12 new hopefuls and a new first: a mother and son will be competing on opposing teams.

The new contestants heard the good news Monday.

They are:

Tamela Baird
Tanner Chapman
Ed Chavis
Nandy Cordova
Colin Heslip
Lisa Marks
Charles Rousey
Ashlee Rushton
Tim Sanders
Laycee Silas
Bronnie Spinks
Lori Videtto

We'll be following all of the contestant’s progress towards a better life.

The first meeting with their trainers is Friday.

Be sure and follow how they're doing on NBC Augusta 26 News and on our website.

I think there would be too many contestants to host a true "Augusta's Biggest Loser" contest. Some of the Augusta Commissioners could use a seat on this panel.
