AUGUSTA, Ga. - Laycee Silas loves her job at the Augusta 911 dispatch center. She was just promoted to Interim Sergeant.

She also loves her two little boys ages four and two-and-a-half. She also loves her husband and the new home they've bought together, but Laycee says she has never loved the way she looks. Even at her thinnest, a size 12 in high school, she felt she just wasn't thin enough. At one point she resorted to starving herself and throwing up what little she ate.

“I just wanted to be skinny,” said Silas. “I wanted to be like everybody else. I wanted to wear the strapless prom dress and have the hot boyfriend.”

But, during a lifetime of roller coaster dieting the weight always crept back on, and while her youngest son was in and out of the hospital for three months Laycee used food to soothe the stress.

“Whenever I was hungry I just ate, and that’s not healthy,” said Silas. "But, it’s what I did to cope with the situation."

Now, at just over 300 pounds, Laycee says she's finally ready to lose weight the right way and make a lasting change.

"I feel like you have to have your mind set that you’re ready to do it and ready to make a lifelong change,” said Silas. “I’m at that point where I am ready to do it.”
