Hilary Matfess has a passion for soccer, and even in a skirt she's got some pretty good moves.

“It makes you feel incredibly empowered when you can do something and do it well,” said Matfess.

It's a feeling she wanted to share with kids and teens around the world that don't have the money or resources to play team sports. That’s how Matfess’ charity, Second Shot, got its start!

“When I was thinking about the idea and kicking it around last summer and trying to get support, I didn’t think anything would happen,” said Matfess.

But, the idea turned into action!

Matfess has collected dozens of soccer jerseys and equipment and given it to kids who otherwise wouldn't have it. Her most recent collection went to a small town in Mexico.

“To actually hand over the jerseys and see the women and children was just wonderful,” said Matfess.

And even though Hilary Matfess is a serious student and standout athlete, she says it is possible to juggle it all.

“It’s not hard at all,” said Matfess. “Everyone talks about how much effort I must’ve put in. At times it is hard work, and you have to make tough decisions. But, overall the community support I’ve received has been heart warming.”
