COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina health officials say 12 new cases of swine flu have been reported, bringing the state's total to 29.
The Department of Health and Environmental Control said Thursday that cases are now reported in nine counties and 24 of the 29 people infected with the virus were linked to a private school in Newberry from which students made a trip to Mexico last month.
DHEC says three of the four other cases involve people who traveled to areas hardest hit by the disease.
Officials on Thursday also canceled visitation at South Carolina's 28 prisons because of swine flu. No cases have been reported behind bars.
DHEC is reviewing federal guidelines that say schools no longer need to close for a week if a student is diagnosed with swine flu.

What this is turning into is a circus, lately the Red Cross recommended people stock up on groceries and essentials for two weeks, and get out as little as possible, China and Egypt have obliterated their pork markets without knowing what they were doing, folks look at you with dire alarm and avoid you like the plague if they overhear you speaking in Spanish and the media is empowering well-paying scammers to disinform and fleece the public. Just follow the CDC website guidelines for real info.
