CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - The Medical University of South Carolina is getting a $20 million grant from the National Institutes of Health to help in getting medical research from the lab to the patient's bedside. Top officials of the university in Charleston announced the award on Tuesday. The grant will allow MUSC top join a national network of academic medical research institutions working to reduce the time lab discoveries can be used for patient treatment. The money over five years will pay for 11 programs at MUSC and through partnerships with the University of South Carolina, Health Sciences South Carolina, Clemson, South Carolina State, Claflin, the Greenwood Genetics Center, the South Carolina Research Authority, and VA medical centers.
