NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. - Prescription drugs can be expensive, but for people struggling to afford them HELP bussed into North Augusta Monday.
The bus, called "Help us Here Express” stopped at the First Baptist Church of North Augusta.
It's the Partnership for Prescription Assistance program.
The bus carries tools that help people who are not insured, under insured or unemployed find a way to get their drugs at a reduced price.
The bus’s representative, Mark Grayson works for PhRMA, the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America.
"When [people] come to the bus or call our operators they'll find out which programs they qualify for and will get forms to fill out that there doctor will sign because it's still a prescription drug,” Grayson said.
There are 475 programs people can possible qualify for. Two-hundred of those are for name brand prescription drugs. Some other programs are for off-brand drugs.
To qualify you must be uninsured, underinsured or unemployed. To find out what programs you qualify you can go to www.pparx.org or call 1-888-477-2669.
If you do qualify for a discount, it takes about three weeks for your medications to come in the mail.
The bus is planning to stop in Orangeburg, S.C., Tuesday.
