Millions of taxpayers are anxiously awaiting a check from the government. The economic stimulus checks are set to start going out in May. Will you be getting one and if so, how much?

About 130 million taxpayers will get the 2008 tax rebate. In most cases, payments will range from $300 to $600 for individuals and $600 to $1200 for joint filers. Taxpayers may receive $300 for each qualifying child.

If you are worried that payment will reduce your 2008 tax refund, it won't, nor will it increase the amount you owe.

You will not be taxed on the money, but you are encouraged to keep a copy of the IRS notice you will receive later this year.

Here's who's eligible for the stimulus checks: taxpayers who made at least $3,000 and filed a 2007 federal tax return. However some higher income taxpayers will not receive a stimulus payment or they may receive a reduced payment.

You'll receive your stimulus payment the same way you receive your 2007 tax refund. That means direct deposit or a paper check depending on how you get your 2007 tax refund.

The IRS will not contact you by phone or e-mail about the payment. So make sure to watch out for scams.

people on social security who make so little they dont have to file each year, should get a rebate also. they are the ones who could really use it.
