SCE&G To Increase Electric Rates

By NBCAugusta Producers

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) _ South Carolina Electric and Gas says its
electric rates are going up.

The South Carolina Public Service Commission on Friday approved
a rate increase of about 1 percent for the utility which serves the
Midlands and Lowcountry.

The utility says the bill for a residential customer who uses
1,000 kilowatt hours of electricity in a month will go up $1.13, to
$107.67.

SCE&G says the increase is needed to cover the rising cost of
fuel used to generate electricity.
