Major Airlines Raising Ticket Prices Again

By NBCAugusta Producers

NEW YORK (AP)- Major U.S. airlines have again raised ticket prices because of higher fuel cost.

This time by $20 roundtrip.

The increases are by Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines, American Airlines and United Airlines.

Their fuel surcharges now total $130 roundtrip on some flights.

That means passengers on some cheap flights could be paying more
in fees and taxes than for the airfare itself.

Delta initiated the increase, which applies to most domestic routes.

It is Delta's second hike in just over a week.

The previous increase was quickly matched by competitors.

American spokesman Tim Smith says the carrier has matched the fuel charge on most routes.
