Augusta Restaurants Aim To Take The Bite Out Of Gas Prices

By Tina Terry tterry@nbcaugusta.com

Some Augusta restaurants are taking the bite out of rising gas prices. They're offering meal deals to help you save money when you dine out.

"We run Great American Favorite specials every day two veggies, a meat, bread and butter for $6.29, said Wayne Cannon, S&S Assistant Manager.

The cafeteria also offers a smaller deal for $4.19 and a kids meal for 99 cents. And in a world where prices seem to be going up every day, S&S says it is not budging.

"A lot of people come in and eat and don't understand why we're still staying the same price which we are trying our best to do." Cannon said.

It's just one of several restaurants catering to cash-strapped customers to keep them coming back.

T.G.I. Friday's is offering a new line of meals that aim to help the restaurant and the customer.

"It's fewer dollars and it's smaller portions," said Friday's General Manager Gwynne Sewell.

Some other restaurants are actually raising prices because of the sluggish economy.

Panera Bread says it will raise prices in August because of the cost of dairy, grain and fuel.

Chuck E. Cheese restaurants say they're changing up the things they do behind the scenes to help save money.

The chain has started using reformulated pizza cheese to help cut costs.
