Update: SC agencies ordered to cut spending by 3 percent
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - All state agencies are being ordered to cut their spending by 3 percent. The Budget and Control Board on Tuesday ordered the reduction in Gov. Mark Sanford and legislative members of the five-member board disagreed on how to implement the cuts. Sanford wanted the money set aside, with lawmakers returning to Columbia to make targeted spending reductions. But Sen. Hugh Leatherman of Florence, chairman of the Finance Several state agencies said last week that they already have frozen hiring.
