More layoffs in Georgia; Augusta not hit as hard

By NBC Augusta Staff

AUGUSTA, Ga.- More people are being laid off in Georgia, but Augusta hasn't been hit that hard.

The Department of Labor says they've seen an increase in the amount of laid off workers.

More than 74, 000 people filed for first time unemployment insurance benefits this year.

Augusta is one of the cities in the state with the lowest number of claims.

The department reports that Augusta only had a 23-percent increase.
