Augusta Food Lion cuts prices as it prepares to close

AUGUSTA, Ga. - A long-time Augusta grocery store is closing its doors on Washington Road, and that means big savings for you.

The Food Lion at Big Tree Shopping Center across from the Augusta National is having a 30 percent off everything closing sale.

Employees say the Augusta National bought the property to expand parking. There's no word yet on when the store will shut down completely.

Employees say they have been given the option of working at another store.

Before Food Lion opened its doors in the 1980s, Kroger operated out of the same building. Kroger moved farther west on Washington Road near the intersection of Alexander Drive, and recently replaced that building with a new store. Food Lion recently opened a new store in the Augusta area. It's located in Evans on Belair Road near the intersection of Washington Road.
