AIKEN, S.C. - Nearly 60 people in Georgia Carolina need a new job since they were cut by Newman Technology South Carolina Inc.
More than 40 of those were given the bad news Wednesday morning.
Dozens of former Newman employees were at the One Stop Career Center in Aiken applying for unemployment and looking for work on Wednesday.
There is some hope for the former employees. Newman's plant manager says, the cuts are considered temporary. But that will depend on the economy in the next few months.
One employee who's been at Newman for eight years says she's worried about her future.
“It's like I don't know what I'm going to do because I'm a production worker. I'm 50 years old. It's going to be hard. Hard to find a job at 50.”, Ruth O’Briant said.
The plant manager tells 26 News they hope to start hiring employees back by June. Since this is considered a temporary layoff, employees received no severance.
