AUGUSTA, Ga. - The current economy is not stopping one local business from expanding. Monday, Barney's Pharmacy located on Peach Orchard Road in Augusta, will open a brand new location in Wrens.
"I started with a business that was struggling through chapter ll. Trying to get reorganized and it was really about to close," Barry Bryant of Barney’s Pharmacy said.
Nowadays things are a lot different for Barney's.
"It stays busy. We normally have 45 employees working just during the week on a daily basis,” Bryant said.
It's so busy that Bryant and his co-owner Brent Hudson are opening a new location in Wrens.
"A lot of other businesses are seeing it as a tough, time to scale back but I'm seeing it as an opportunity," Bryant said.
“The thing about pharmacy is there's always going to be a need for it,” Hudson said.
They say that need plus their customer service is what has made them successful.
"When they come in here they pay the same prices as the competitors. So why do they come here? It's the customer service," Bryant said.
“We try to keep up with everybody's name; as a matter of fact we do know everybody's name,” Barney’s employee, Wendy Scott, said.
"The other pharmacies seem to take longer. Here they call you by name and they are always friendly," customer Susan McNair, said.
The shelves are stocked and ready for Monday's grand opening at the new location in Wrens. It is a smaller version of the Augusta store but the owners say the way they handle business will be exactly the same.
“Whether you're at this location or the Wrens location everything should be handled the same way, same smiling faces,” Bryant said.
“It kind of cheers you up when you come in here,” McNair said.
The Wrens location of Barney's is still hiring. In all, the new location will bring five new jobs to the area. If you are interested in applying call (706) 547-4111.
