Earn cash by going energy efficient

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina Electric and Gas Company
has submitted a new proposal that includes a wide range of energy
saving programs.

The State of Columbia reported Wednesday that the new proposal
includes nine programs, including one offering cash incentives for
customers installing energy-efficient central air conditioning
units and heat pumps. State regulators required SCE&G to create the
energy efficiency plan as part of an order approving two new
nuclear reactors.

Some environmental groups who opposed the reactors have already
expressed concerns over SCE&G's new plan.

Tom Clements with Friends of the Earth said in a statement that
his group worries the company's plan will fall short of the
conservation steps needed in South Carolina. He says his group will
review SCE&G's plan.
