$137,000 bus?

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina will use a $554,000 federal
grant to buy four new hybrid-electric school buses and retrofit old
buses to reduce pollution.

The Post and Courier of Charleston reported Wednesday the
low-emission hybrids will be the only new buses purchased this
year.

In 2007, the Legislature approved a 15-year school bus
replacement cycle that would require buying about 380 buses
annually. Budget cuts have put that plan on hold ever since.

South Carolina is the only state that owns and maintains a
statewide bus fleet for public schools.

South Carolina will spend about $68,000 to secure the federal
stimulus grant. The hybrids cost nearly $137,000 each. About 500 of
the state's 1995 buses will get new ventilation filtration systems,
which are expected to reduce diesel emissions.

James, you are more concerned about grammar instead of why thousands of dollars are being spent on buses? You obviously do not have any children and worry about what gets cut every year. I agree with anonymous, they could put that money to better use!!! Aiken County is having more problems with schools not making the AYP and they are more worried about buses?!?!?I mean Please, if all you do is go here and criticize people about their grammar, then you obvously have no life.

Well let me fix my grammer, I am more concerned about all the teachers that just lost their jobs that could be teaching our kids rather than the state looking for funding for a hybrib school bus. Is an education not better?
