AUGUSTA, Ga. - Property taxes are due this month in many of our counties and paying them late is the subject of this Good Question.
Stacey from Columbia County wants to know what happens if you don't pay your property taxes on time.
26 News checked with the county's Tax Commissioner's Office. They tell us taxes need to be in this Friday.
Owners accrue a 1 percent penalty after the 15th of each month on the unpaid balance.
If your money is not received by April 16, there is a 10 percent penalty and 1 percent interest. If taxes aren't paid by the first week of May, a lien is placed on the property.
Richmond and Aiken counties have similar penalties.
