Suspect charged in Luckey Street murder

A day after Johnny Davis was shot and killed investigators say they have arrested his killer. Richmond County investigators tell NBC Augusta Willie Coe has been charged with killing Davis Monday night near downtown Augusta. Officers say Davis was caught in the crossfire.

Investigators say Johnny Davis was found dead in his car around 7 p.m. Monday on Luckey Street. That's near Cherry Tree Crossing Apartments. Investigators say Davis was shot after two men started firing shots at each other. One of the shots hit Davis. Investigators say Davis was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

“I don't think this particular incident was drug related. It appears that Mr. Davis was caught in the crossfire of two people firing at each other. It does not appear that he has any involvement in the matter whatsoever,” said Lt. Scott Peebles, Richmond County Sheriff Office.

Lewis Harmon had been a person of interest but he has been cleared.
