SC father charged with running over toddler

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) - A Spartanburg County man is out of jail, a day after authorities charged him with running over his 2-year-old son in his driveway while under the influence.

Police charged 33-year-old Clay West of Pacolet with felony DUI and child endangerment.

A hospital spokeswoman said West's son, Gage, remained in critical condition Monday.

Police Chief Robert Ivey said West ran over the toddler when he
pulled into his driveway Sunday.

The chief said West parked and went inside, not realizing what he'd done until he got back into his vehicle and began backing up.

Ivey said toxicology reports are pending.

West was released from jail Monday afternoon following a bond hearing.

It was unclear if West had a lawyer. His home phone number was
unlisted.
