Student charged with bringing gun to school

GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) - The Greenville County Sheriff's Office
says a Berea High School student has been suspended and arrested
after a school resource officer found a gun in his backpack.
The Greenville News reported that warrants state that
17-year-old Markiea Rashad Dillard of Greenville is charged with
carrying a weapon on school property and disturbing a school.
The resource officer had responded to a fight in a bathroom when
the gun was found. Master Deputy Michael Hildebrand says it was a
Taurus .22-caliber semiautomatic pistol.
School spokesman Oby (Oh-bee) Lyles says Dillard has been
recommended for expulsion. Lyles says the other student has also
been suspended.
There were no injuries.
Jailers did not know Tuesday if Dillard had an attorney.
