Firearms trade group offers reward in thefts

ATLANTA (AP) - The trade association for the firearms industry says it will match rewards offered by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives for information solving burglaries of licensed gun retailers.

The National Shooting Sports Foundation said Friday it responding to a spate of break-ins and thefts from firearms outlets, including a recent one in Georgia.

It will match ATF's offer of up to $5,000 for information in the Nov. 8 burglary of the Bargain Barn in Jasper, Ga., where thieves smashed display cases and stole 40 firearms.

The Newtown, Conn.-based trade association said it is committed to working with law enforcement to combat criminal acquisition and use of guns.
