AUGUSTA, Ga. - A man shot to death inside his car Friday morning is Richmond County's fourth murder victim this week.

Investigators tell 26 News they are following several leads in the murder of Chad Shirey.

It's a deadly shooting that has neighbors shocked. Loretta Eidson says 25-year-old Shirey was new to the neighborhood.

“He just moved in three days ago and to me he seemed like a really nice person,” said Eidson.

Investigators tell 26 News Shirey was driving home with a friend when he noticed he was being followed. The witness told investigators as Shirey turned down a dirt road towards his home, the man driving behind them got out and shot Shirey.

Shirey is the fourth person murdered in Richmond County since Saturday. Neighbors say his death is a reflection of the world we live in.

"It's a commentary on where they world is. That people just shoot each other randomly. This kid was young and had his whole life ahead of him and now he's gone,” said Maria Quick, neighbor.

Investigators say the car that was following Shirey is a tan or beige SUV.

The woman in the car with Shirey was not hurt and called 911. If you have any information, call the Richmond County Sheriff's Office at (706) 821-1080.

I knew Chad personally.Yeah he acted hard and tough,but it was just a facade.Deep down,he was truly a good-hearted person.I think he had a rough upbringing and he was a product of his upbringing.He lived his life the only way he knew. It is really a shame he didn't get out of the game and off the streets. Don't get me wrong,Im not passing judgement on him.Just want folks to understand him. He was robbed his life and NO ONE deserves that. Rest In Peace CVS!You will always be missed and loved.

Chad was a childhood friend of mine and was loved by many. I just don't get why people feel the need to kill. If we all would just love a little more instead of hate these kinds of heartless crimes would not happen! He NEVER deserved this and neither did his family! The pain and hurt that they feel I can't even imagine my heart and prayers go out to his mother, his children and the mother of his children!! We will miss you greatly CHAD!

If he noticed that he was being followed, why not keep driving and call the police on the cell? I don't think that I would have stopped, to give them an easier target. Times are really bad now and you need to protect yourself, at any and all cost.
