SALLEY, S.C. - An Aiken County woman is accused of plotting to kill her estranged husband and his son. Investigators say Judy Dickson, of Salley, offered her boyfriend $10,000 to make the deaths look like an accident to collect insurance money.
Investigators say, instead of going through with the plan, the boyfriend told the FBI. She was arrested Tuesday.
Court documents show Dickson asked her boyfriend, David Hutto, to kill Raymon Dickson and his son Ryan by setting their North Carolina home on fire. Dickson said if Raymon's death looked like an accident, she would collect twice as much on his life insurance policy.
The affidavit shows Dickson asked Hutto to use gallons of gasoline and pine straw to set the home of fire while Raymon and his 18-year-old son slept.
Raymon Dickson tells 26 News his wife’s boyfriend told him about the murder-for-hire plan.
Raymon says Dickson would have received a significant amount from his retirement, life insurance, and 401K plan. His 18-year-old son was also a beneficiary.
It’s a plot, Judy Dickson's neighbor, Kimberly Fail, couldn't believe.
"It's scary to know you've been talking to somebody who's leading a double life," said Fail.
Fail tells 26 News Dickson moved to Salley after she and her husband separated in February. She says Dickson called her a few days ago and told her about the murder for hire plan.
"She told me David told his boss that she hired him to kill her husband," said Fail.
Family members say Dickson was diagnosed with bipolar and manic depressive disorder six months ago and has been on a lot of medication.
Her bond is set at $250,000.
