AUGUSTA, Ga. – A man is in jail after a shooting at an Augusta night club.

It happened at Cream Night Club on North Leg road around 2 a.m., Sunday.

Richmond County investigators have charged Clyde Harris with three counts of aggravated assault. They say he shot Daryl Merriweather in the neck.

The Richmond County Sheriff's department tells NBC Augusta 26 News that Harris was sitting in his car when he thought somebody bumped it. He then pulled out his gun and fired out the window. The bullet went into the car next to him, hitting a man in the arm and narrowly missing a female passenger. The bullet then continued on, striking Merriweather. Officers say Merriweather was a random and possibly unintended target.

Merriweather was taken to MCGHealth. NBC Augusta 26 News is working to find out his condition.

This article does not states the facts correctly. As I saw it, when the dude was coming out of the club, he was heading to his car when one of the guys that was parked next to him punched him in the face causing Harris to fall to the ground. Harris exchanged words and stood by his car while being provoked by the dudes in the S.U.V. parked next to him. I don't know what caused it but Harris did seem to be out numbered. After maybe 10 mins. standing in the lot 1 shot was fired, Merriweather fell.

He has received 2 D.U.I's since arriving at fort gordon. He's joined an extremist organization which is against Army rules,and he was NOT jumped. He was drunk and angry and took his gun out and angrily shot at these mens cars OVER A WOMAN! he was NOT "jumped" it WAS NOT self defense.

For all those who say they knew Clyde you must not have known him well. I served 3 years with him 14 months of which were in Iraq. He was involved in 1 DUI while i knew him and 2 moving violations. this was in a 3 month period. While in Iraq he repeatedly tried to fight at least 3 fellow soldiers when he wasn't getting his way. Its time people stop making excuses for him and lets him be a man and face the consequences for what he has done. He by no means was a quiet or reserved.

Sgt Harris was never a squad leader in the time I knew him. I can remember a more specific time he tried to fight a NCO in the middle of the CHU's in front of his subordinates in Iraq and the other NCO just walked away from him to avoid a fight. I did not find a little bit of reservation in the clyde harris I knew.

Mr. Harris can’t argue self defense by using a deadly weapon when none of the men used a gun on Mr. Harris. He would have a better defense with intoxication.
