Scam artist in city of Aiken

AIKEN, S.C. – Aiken Public Safety investigators are looking for the man responsible for scamming two women who live in the Woodside Plantation neighborhood.

Both women were scammed out of approximately $50 by a man going door to door in their gated community. Captain Wendell Hall says the man asked the women if they were interested in any “children’s books.”

The women bought something from the man, but never received the books they ordered.

Hall says investigators found the man’s business to be illegal and that he had none of the appropriate permits.

Investigators are looking for more leads in this case.

This is similar to what happened to me in Martinez last week. This guy said he was raising money to go to Hawaii for his soccer team and said his parents live down the street. This was in Watervale subdivision in Martinez..Anyone else in this area had this happen?
