AUGUSTA, Ga. - "I don't feel safe anymore," said Melissa Hayes.

Hayes has lived in her same south Augusta neighborhood since March. She says she always felt safe walking everywhere. Her comfort was shattered early Saturday morning after being robbed at gunpoint.

Hayes was walking home with her husband after getting off work at the Lucky Trip Gas Station on Lumpkin Road. The couple says they were walking down their street, four houses down from their home, and two robbers jumped out from the trees, pulled handguns on them and demanded all of their money.

Hayes says it could have been prevented if the street lights in her neighborhood were on and working.

"That's what the city needs to keep up on and do something about, because had the street lights been working down there, we would have at least been able to see what was coming to us. We were in the total dark," said Christopher Hogg, Hayes’ husband.

"He looked at my husband and said, “Ya’ll turn around.” As we turned around we heard them cock their guns. Then my neighbor started their car, they heard it, then said “lets go”," said Hayes.

Hayes says she and her husband are so shaken after the robbery, they're moving to a safer place to live.

Sow Thugusta, the rathole of the CSRA. These folks do well to take their work and tax money somewhere else, no gain in paying millage for the useless Richmond County Commissioner's Office.

The street lights need to be working so that... ahm, excuse me.. if two guys were standing there, you'd have known they were going to pull out guns and rob you??? I'm with TK3. Oh well, you go to jail after shooting them. Two robbers off the street and the news would scare off a few others. Happens 1,000 times you have much less crime.

Yes, they are moving to Macon where the crime rate is twice as high as the rate is Augusta. Atlanta, Savannah, Albany, Columbus, Augusta and Macon are high crime rate areas.
